Gujarati man visiting Canada killed in road accident in Mississauga
MISSISSAUGA: An elderly Gujarati man from India visiting his family here was killed in a road accident on Sunday.
According to police, Harshadrai Patel, 64, who was visiting his relatives here, was killed when a Toyota Sienna in which he was travelling with others was hit by a Jeep Cherokee in the early hours of Sunday.
The collision happened in the city’s intersection of Torbram Road and Reena Road. Patel was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Two other persons who were travelling with Patel suffered injuries.
The driver of the Jeep sped away from the scene, but he lost control of his vehicle and hit a street light pole at some distance from the scene.
He was arrested when he tried to fle. Police found that he was driving under the inflence of liquor. Some drugs were also found from his possession.
The accused has been identifid as Justin Edwin, 26, from Caledon. He has been slapped with multiple charges, including causing death due to criminal negligence, excess blood alcohol, and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
