US Sikh bodies announce gherao of Punjab CM, Cong MLAs during foreign visits
New York, November 15, 2017: The Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast, an umbrella organisations of Gurdfwara managements and Sikh orgsnisations in USA has announced to gherao Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Congress MLAs and other leaders of the party during their visits abroad.
It has also been announced that the Congress leaders visiting foreign countries will have to face law of the land.
The announcement has come in the wake of allegations of denial of legal, human rights of the Sikh youths arrested for their alleged involvement in killings of the leaders of right-wing Hindu leaders in Punjab.
Terming the arrests in the manner these were made as an anti-Sikh activity of Amarinder government, the Coordinator of the committee Himmat Singh and other leaders including Kewal Singh Sidhu, Harjinder Singh Pinehill, Vir Singh Mangat and Davender Singh Deo alleged the Sikhs were being implicated in police cases like it was done post 1984 in Punjab.
In the statement, issued after an emergency meeting of the committee, the committee leaders alleged that UK citizen Jagtar Singh Johal, who hails from Jandiala in Punjab, was neither allowed to avail services of a lawyer in the court nor meet officials of the UK Embassy. Johal was on Punjab visit for his marriage, they added.
They also raised objections to the working of the Punjab police. Citing example of the arrest of Hardeep Singh Shera (23) of village Majri of Fatehgarh Sahib district in murder case of the RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja, they said according to the police version he used to flee to Italy after committing crime but in this case he did not do so even days after committing the alleged murder.
They also questioned the police version that Shera was arrested from a Gynmnasium which was in contrast of the reportage of a section of the media that he was arrested while moving on a motorcycle. These leaders also found the statements of Punjab DGP Suresh Arora unconvincing due to alleghed contradiction in them. The DGP on the one hand said the investigation was in the preliminary stages but on the other hand, gave details of the case and Shera’s involvement in it, they added.
They alleged the Amarinder government was arresting the Sikh youths as tactics to divert attention from its failure to arrest those behind desecration of the Sikh holy scriptures, ending drugs problem and providing jobs as promised in the Congress party’s poll manifesto.
