The Region of Peel congratulates Dr. Lawrence Loh and Dr. Nicholas Brandon on the confirmation of their appointments
Brampton, ON – (March 08, 2021) – The Region of Peel congratulates Dr. Lawrence Loh and Dr. Nicholas Brandon on the official Ministerial approval of their appointments as the Medical Officer of Health and Associate Medical Officer of Health respectively for Peel Public Health.
Dr. Loh has been serving as Peel’s lead public health physician since March 2020. He has been guiding the region’s COVID-19 response, ensuring that the wellbeing and safety of Peel residents is always at the centre of the region’s evolving pandemic strategy. Prior to assuming the Chief Medical Officer role, Dr. Loh served as an Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Region since 2016.
Dr. Loh completed medical school at Western University and public health and preventive medicine training at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. That residency saw him complete concurrent family medicine training at St. Michael’s Hospital and completion of a Master of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. He holds specialist certifications in family medicine in Canada and in public health and preventive medicine in Canada and the United States.
Initially starting his career as a family physician in Brampton in 2008, his early career was then marked by leadership positions held at all three levels of government in two provinces. He served as Medical Specialist in vaccine safety at the Public Health Agency of Canada, as Medical Health Officer at Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia, and Senior Medical Consultant to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Dr. Nicholas Brandon joined Peel Public Health in July 2020. As one of the region’s Associate Medical Officers of Health, he consistently leverages his expertise in Family Medicine and public health and preventive medicine to provide advice on a number of public health issues including health protection, health equity, emergency management response and support to the COVID-19 response.
Prior to coming to Peel, Dr. Brandon worked as a Public Health Physician at Public Health Ontario and had a physician role at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. He also served as an Associate Medical Officer of Health at Toronto Public Health.
He holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University, a Master of Science in Public Health and Health Systems from the University of Waterloo, and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Ottawa.
