NDP Promises Dental Care Free For Ontarians

The leader, Andrea Horwath, says in her speech that this move will save families more than $1,000 per year, and even more. In case the children need braces, NDP Party says it could save families $13,000 annually.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath made a prominent announcement during its election campaign today. Ontario’s New Democrats are now promising free dental care to all Ontario residents that fall under all low- and middle-income families cap.

The leader, Andrea Horwath, says in her speech that this move will save families more than $1,000 per year, and even more. In case the children need braces, NDP Party says it could save families $13,000 annually.

“We all want what’s best for our families — including regular check-ups at the dentist. But the cost of living is making that harder,” said Horwath. “People are racking up credit card bills to get the dental care they need. Parents sometimes make the heartbreaking decision to put off getting their kid’s cavity filled because it’s not in the budget. Dental care is health care — so why is it costing people so much? With the NDP, you’ll be covered,” said the NDP leader Andrea Horwath.

Under this plan, all the un-insured low- and middle-income families will be covered, and they will receive the benefits of this plan. Ontario residents with annual income less than $90,000 will absolutely pay nothing. Families earning between $90,000 to $200,000 will pay a co-pay, that will not be more than 50% of dentists’ bill.

The NDP government promises to invest $680 million in 2022-23 to this plan federally. Ontario will receive an investment of $380 million for this dental plan.
