85% of air travelers are screening in less than 55 minutes, Says Alghabra

On Wednesday morning, Transport Minister spoke to Parvasi Radio about the chaos arising at the airports and the steps taken to combat it.

Over the past month, the national media reported widely about Toronto Pearson Airport ranking number 1 in delays and flight cancellations. This has not only hampered the image of the Toronto Pearson Airport but the whole country at large.

These delays and cancellations were caused by shortage of staff, congestion caused by rapid tests, and several other issues.

On Wednesday morning, Transport Minister spoke to Parvasi Radio about the chaos arising at the airports and the steps taken to combat it.

“It is a frustrating situation, and it is a result of surge in demand and labor shortage,” Omar Alghabra said.

He further added, “We are investing in the government agencies that provide service to the airports. We have increased the number tremendously.”

He mentioned that the waiting time has also decreased now as compared to two months ago and that things are getting better.

Alghabra stated that now almost 85% of passengers are being screened in less than 55 minutes. He said, “Its really important to me that travelers have a safe and enjoyable experience”

Upon being questioned about hiring more baggage handlers, Alghabra said that the private airlines have been hiring new baggage handlers.
