Road Shows & Election Rally Ban Till Jan 31

The election commission of India has announced ban on roadshows and rallies till January 31 for 5 states where polling will be
held next month between February 10 to February 20.
This decision has been taken after meeting of Union Health Secretary and the Chief Health Secretaries keeping the surge in coronavirus cases.
Initially, the ban was ordered by election commission until January 15 which was later extended the till January 22 for the five states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa where elections will be held.
However election commission has allowed physical public meetings of political parties or contesting candidates for Phase 1 from January 28 and for Phase 2 from February 1.
Limit of five people for door-to-door campaigning has been raised to 10 which will not include security personnel.
From January 28 till February 8, physical meetings in designated open spaces with up to 500 people or 50 per cent of the ground’s capacity will also be allowed.
