The Canadian Government is not shying away from publicly proclaiming its unwavering support for Ukraine amidst the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, at a joint press conference with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, called Russia’s air attacks on Ukraine “abhorrent” and condemned them “in the strongest possible terms.”

Joly also took to Twitter to claim that the Canadian authorities have summoned Russia’s ambassador to Canada to express their condemnation of the attacks in person.

The Russian Federation launched cruise missiles on Ukraine on Monday and Tuesday causing casualties in Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr in western Ukraine, Dnipro and Kremenchuk in the centre, Zaporizhzhia in the south, and Kharkiv in the east. These attacks have reportedly knocked out power in some of the most prominent cities of the country.

These Russian ‘air strikes’ have been regarded as the largest since the conflict began.

PM Justin Trudeau also took to Twitter on Tuesday to share his telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and echoed Joly’s sentiments stating, “I told him that Canada condemns this abhorrent behavior and that we’ll continue to stand with our allies in support of Ukraine.”
