The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Bhagwant Mann, inducted five new Ministers in his Council of Ministers at a simple ceremony at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Monday. The Punjab Governor administered oath of secrecy to Aman Arora, Fauja Singh (Guru Har Sahai), Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar (Amritsar South), Anmol Gagan Maan (Kharar),  and Chetan Singh Jouramajra (Samana) . The portfolios of new Ministers would be announced later.

After the first expansion of his cabinet, Bhagwant Mann now has 14 ministers besides himself . According to rules, Punjab Cabinet can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister.

The swearing in ceremony was attended by a majority of AAP legislators, their family members and friends.

A few senior members of the AAP Legislature party, including Sarabjit Kaur Manuke and Baljinder Kaur, both second time MLAs, however, could not find a berth in the expanded Cabinet. Today, Malwa got four new ministers while the fifth position went to the Majha region. Doaba did not get any.

It may be recalled that when Bhagwant Mann constituted his Cabinet, he had 10 ministers. However, one of the Cabinet ministers, Dr Vijay Singla, was dismissed from the Cabinet on corruption charges.

Speaking to newsmen after the expansion, the Chief Minister said that all 92 members of the AAP Legislature Party were like “jewels” and it was not possible to make all of them ministers. They all have their roles to play and they  will be given bigger roles in the coming days.

He said that he was overburdened as he had too many portfolios. He has 28 portfolios as of today. He is expected to shed some of his portfolios and allocate them to new ministers.
