Body Of Morinda Gurdwara Sacrilege Accused Taken to Patiala for Post-mortem, No One Claimed the Body

The body of the accused in the Tribune case was taken to a hospital for post-mortem where it remained unclaimed. Jasvir Singh, the accused, died at the Civil Hospital in Mansa on Monday after complaining of breathing problems while at Mansa jail.

The body of Jasvir Singh was taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for post-mortem on Tuesday afternoon. A three-member board of doctors were brought together to carry out the post-mortem. No one from the family of Jasvir Singh showed up to claim the body. “The dead-body has not been claimed by his family members. It has been kept at the hospital’s mortuary for it to be claimed by the family members,” said Patiala DSP Sanjeev Singla.

The proceedings at the mortuary and the results of the port-mortem are being kept under wraps for now.

Jasvir Singh was arrested on April 24 after a video of him went viral, showing him entering the sanctum sanctorum of Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib in Morinda and hitting the two granthis (priests) as well as desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib. At the time, he was taken to Rupnagar prison and was presented in Rupnagar court on April 27. At the court, a lawyer tried to unsuccessfully attack him with a revolver after which he was then moved to Masa prison.

Locals had been protesting outside the Morinda Police Station, demanding strict punishment for the accused. Markets were also shut down in protest against the incident. While at Mansa prison, Jasvir complained of breathing problems and was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he died.
