Controversial Cop Raj Jit Singh Dismissed, Disproportionate Assets Investigation Ordered by Punjab CM

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has dismissed controversial cop Raj Jit Singh from service. Singh has been accused of being involved in a nexus between drug dealers and the police. The Vigilance Bureau has also launched a disproportionate assets case against the police officer.

Following the three reports of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the police-drug mafia nexus in Punjab, CM Mann has dismissed Raj Jit Singh who was posted in Moga at the time, from his post. A disproportionate assets investigation has also been ordered by the CM. The three reports also call for investigating other police officials that might be involved in the nexus.

As per the reports, Raj Jit and Inderjit Singh were accused of collusion as they allegedly planted money on innocents to extort money and help actual drug smugglers by leaving loopholes in the investigation. The reports state that Raj Jit had on two occasions ensured that Inderjit was posted in the districts that he was heading as police chief.

They also list various properties worth crores that are allegedly owned by Raj Jit, which is why the disproportionate assets case has been launched against him.

Since these reports are from 2018, at the time, Inderjit Singh was arrested but no action was taken against Raj Jit.

Raj Jit Singh over the years has served as senior superintendent of police (SSP) in several districts of Punjab. At the time of his dismissal, he was posted as an assistant inspector general (AIG) for NRI affairs.
