Dangerous ponds, rivers, and streams are a menace to Mississauga Residents

The City stated today on Twitter that while they may seem like a great location to skate or walk, they are unsafe.

Residents of Mississauga are advised to stay away from bodies of water this time of year since they can pose serious risks to one’s life, particularly in the wake of powerful storms.

According to municipal officials, yesterday’s (Jan. 25) significant snowstorm may have made ponds, rivers, creeks, and lakes—including Lake Ontario and artificial lakes in Meadowvale and other areas of the city—even more hazardous than usual.

The City stated today on Twitter that while they may seem like a great location to skate or walk, they are unsafe. “You run the risk of slipping through due to thin ice and shifting water levels.”

Officials from Mississauga advise anyone looking for a rink to visit the City’s website for a list of indoor and outdoor open rinks.
