TVO workers begin strike action after negotiations stall
Canadian Media Guild said the union was unable to reach a fair pay deal with the Ontario media company
Dozens of workers at Ontario’s public broadcaster, TVO, began strike action on Monday morning after the the union that represents the workers said it wasn’t able to reach a fair deal with the company.
The Canadian Media Guild represents around 70 journalists, producers and educational content creators at the media company. Earlier this month, the union rejected an offer from the employer with an almost 100 per cent vote.
In a statement, TVO’s cheif executive Jeffery Orridge said the company would continue bargaining with union to reach an agreement. “We are ready to meet with CMG at any time and we remain confident that we can bring this to a resolution that works for both parties,” the statement added.
The union has previously criticized the media corporation’s negotiation offers, saying that the wages on offer are well below what’s needed for workers to catch up to inflation.
