Be vigilant against hate crimes: The MEA warns the Indo-Canadian diaspora.

After a surge in hate crimes against Indians in Canada, the Ministry of External Affairs of India has warned international students and other immigrants residing in the country to stay cautious regarding their safety.

The MEA has also assured the diaspora that their Consulates General in Canada is in contact with the Canadian Authorities, who’ve been reportedly asked by the MEA to probe the incidents.

“There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said crimes and take appropriate action the perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada.”, stated the MEA in an official address.

The aforementioned release also stresses the importance of registering with the High Commission in Ottawa or Consulates General in Toronto and Vancouver adding, “Registration would enable the High Commission and the Consulates General to better connect with Indian citizens in Canada in the event of any requirement or emergency.”

Crimes against Indian folks have been up substantially with the Ottawa police stating that the Anti-South Asian Hate Crimes had gone up 11.5% in the year 2021.
