Brampton Cracks Down on Speeding with 50 New Automated Cameras Installed Across the City

Brampton reports an average reduction in vehicle speeds of 6.5 km/h across all ASE sites, with some locations seeing decreases of up to 18 km/h.

The City of Brampton has activated 50 new Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras, bringing the citywide total to 150. These cameras, now live as of June 6, are part of Brampton’s broader plan to install 185 cameras by the end of summer 2025.

This move makes Brampton home to one of the largest municipal ASE programs in Canada, a program the city says is helping shift driver behaviour, reduce speeding, and safeguard vulnerable residents near schools, parks, and residential areas.

The newly installed cameras are strategically positioned across all ten wards, with high-traffic areas near schools and community zones prioritized. Locations include Kingswood Drive near Merton Road in Ward 1, Queen Mary Drive south of Sunnybrook Crescent in Ward 6, and Clarkway Drive in Ward 10, among dozens of others.

The ASE system automatically detects and tickets vehicles exceeding posted speed limits, with fines mailed directly to the registered vehicle owner. The city emphasized that the responsibility lies with the owner, regardless of who was behind the wheel at the time of the offence.

According to city officials, the technology is already showing results. Brampton reports an average reduction in vehicle speeds of 6.5 km/h across all ASE sites, with some locations seeing decreases of up to 18 km/h.

Still, extreme cases persist. Earlier this year, a driver was caught going 144 km/h in a 40 km/h zone on Heart Lake Road near Esker Lake Public School. More recently, a camera on Howard Stewart Road, in front of Whaley’s Corners Public School, clocked a vehicle at 133 km/h—more than triple the speed limit.

ASE cameras rely on a combination of speed detection and photography to capture violations. Offenders receive tickets by mail only. The City is urging residents to be cautious of scams involving fake ASE ticket notifications via text message. These messages are fraudulent and should be reported to Peel Regional Police. No legitimate ASE ticket will ever be issued by text.

Fines can be paid online, by phone, in person at 5 Ray Lawson Blvd., or by mail. Unpaid tickets can lead to additional fees and block the renewal of vehicle registrations.

The City maintains that ASE is part of a multi-pronged approach that includes physical traffic calming measures, digital signs, educational outreach, and targeted police enforcement. Together, these tools aim to create safer streets for all users, especially children and seniors.
