Haiti, in the last few days, witnessed a severe gang conflict as the Haiti Police continually tried to stand off to one of the most powerful gangs in the region. The Canadian Federal Government, alongside the US, has sent armored vehicles amongst other supplies to help bolster Haiti’s Police.
“Today, Canadian and U.S. military aircraft arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to transfer vital Haitian government-purchased security equipment, including tactical and armoured vehicles, and supplies to the Director General of the Haitian National Police (HNP). The delivery of the equipment was part of a joint operation involving Royal Canadian Air Force and U.S. Air Force aircraft,” said a joint statement made by Melanie Joly, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, the Canadian Defence Minister as well as Lloyd Austin, the U.S. Secretary of Defence.
“Together with the Government of Haiti, Canada and the United States affirm the importance of working together to support the restoration of security in Haiti,” further affirmed the statement.
The joint effort by the neighboring countries was carried out in order to “fight against criminal gangs and help improve security” in Haiti, as stated by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
