Former cricketer Harbhajan raised the issue of Afghan Sikhs in Rajya Sabha

Harbhajan Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, raised the issue of the security of Afghani Sikhs. Harbhajan Singh said in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that only 150 Sikhs are left there after the Taliban came to power. The central government should show seriousness towards their security. Harbhajan said that the sentiments of Sikhs are being hurt by the attack on Sikhs and Gurudwaras in Afghanistan. This is an attack on the identity of the Sikhs. Why are we being targeted? During Covid, Gurudwaras not only provided food, but also oxygen. The MP said that on June 18, several blasts took place at Gurdwara Dashmesh Pita Sahib Ji in Kabul. Shots were fired at the fort and the door leading to the compound. In which two people died and many were injured. On March 25, 2020, IS gunmen attacked the Raisahib Gurdwara. There were 200 people in the building. In which 25 Sikhs, including women, died. The attack happened again the day after his funeral. In 2018, there was also an attack in the eastern city of Jalalabad. Harbhajan Singh said Afghanistan was once home to thousands of Sikhs and Hindus. Now, these are just a handful. There were 2.20 lakh Sikhs and Hindus living in the 1980s. This figure has come down from 15 thousand in the 1990s and 1350 in 2016. There were about 1500 Sikhs at the time of the Jalalabad attack. With the return of the Taliban to power, another 300 Sikhs have come down. Now just around 150 Sikhs are left there.
The Sikh community has always been ahead in the country’s independence, GDP, employment, and charity. The Sikh community has been a strong link between India and other countries. Sikhs are known for their courage and valor. Then why treat us like this?
