ICU Closure at Bowmanville Hospital due to Staff Shortages

Lakeridge Health said in a statement, "We recognize the impact of this temporary relocation on patients and their families."

As per the reports by the hospital network in Durham Region, the ICU of Bowmanville Hospital will soon be temporarily closed due to a significant staff shortage.

The Ontario Nurses’ Association has said that it has heard very troubling reports from the members regarding closures and service cuts in almost 14 hospitals across Ontario.

Lakeridge Health said in a statement, “We recognize the impact of this temporary relocation on patients and their families.”

It further added, “We continue to assess the situation regularly, with the goal of bringing back critical care services to the Bowmanville Hospital when staffing stabilizes, and it is safe to do so.”

It must also be noted that some areas in the  province have already seen ER Closures.

Where the ONA has not mentioned the names of the 14 hospitals quoted, it has made it clear that their members are facing extremely difficulty and testing conditions.

The ONA which represents more than 60,000 nurses and hospital staff said, “These closures are not the fault of individual hospitals, they are a symptom of the provincewide neglect of our dedicated registered nurses and health-care professionals throughout the pandemic and before.”
