Service Ontario Employees Involved in Auto-theft Organised Crime

The thefts took place majorly in Ontario.

Recently, 200 stolen cars have been recovered and 28 people have been charged in connection with the dismantling of auto theft criminal organisations. These three organisations operated out of Ontario and Saskatchewan.

 The investigation for which has been going on for 22 months now and was titled Project MYRA.

According to the reports by the police, 215 vehicles recovered are worth more than $12M and 37% out of them were either Honda or Acuras.

The 28 people who have been charged also include employees with Service Ontario. 26 of them are from Ontario and rest are from Saskatchewan.

The suspects are ranging from the ages of 27 to 59 anf are majorly the residents of the GTA, Kitchener, Stoney Creek, Caledon, Bradford, and Gravenhurst.

The police executed 44 search warrants during the investigation which resulted din the seizure of six firearms, 77Kg of cannabis, 1,840gm of suspected cocaine, 10gm of suspected psilocybin, and 150gm of suspected cannabis resin. $160,000 and US $8400 was also seized during the investigation.

Five out of the 28 arrested remain in the police custody and the rest are going to appear in the court in July and August.

Peel Regional Police Dy Chief Nick Milinovich said, “Currently we are seeing hundreds of vehicles being stolen on a monthly basis, which is substantially higher than previous months” He further added, “This is an issue and a concern which extends outside of our jurisdiction and province.”

OPP Det. Insp. Andy Bradford said, “This investigation has not focused on petty vehicle theft. The accused have utilize these fraudulently registered vehicles to participate in criminal activities.”
