Man thrashed by mob in Ayodhya for kissing his wife at ‘Holy Ghat’

A purported video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows him being dragged away from his wife as a group of people started pushing and thrashing him and pulled him out of the river.

Ayodhya: A video has emerged on social media where an angry mob can be seen beating a man. Reason? Because the man was kissing his wife while bathing in the holy Sarayu river in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya city. The incident happened at Ram ki Paidi, which is a series of ghats on the bank of the river Sarayu.

The man was taken by surprise when he was grabbed from behind while he was kissing his wife. One man is heard saying that “Such vulgarity will not be tolerated in Ayodhya.”

The wife tries to protect her husband but fails to do so. The couple can be seen being taken out of the river, while more and more people gathered and started beating the man.

This man did a ‘mistake’ of kissing his wife – Ram Bhakts in Ayodhya misbehaved with his wife and beat up the man! Kissing is not Indian culture, but lynching has become one.

The video of the attack has now gone viral with over 1.3 million views, over 15,000 likes and more than 5,000 reshares.

Another person from the mob could be seen hurling abuses, and asking, “Don’t you have a family?”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. A police officer told news agency PTI on Thursday that the exact date of the incident was yet to be confirmed even though some people claimed it had happened at Ram ki Paudi ghat on Tuesday.

The officer pointed out that no complaint has been received yet. “However, we are investigating the matter and trying to find the couple and the miscreants who attacked them,” he added.

Ayodhya’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shailesh Pandey, said that the video is a week old and that they have not received any complaint in the matter. The police are now trying to find out where the couple is currently residing so that if they wish to take any action, a complaint can be registered.

Further, police said that officials have been asked to investigate and take necessary legal action in the matter.

Sarayu is one of the seven tributaries of Ganga and is considered holy by the Hindus. Ayodhya, Lord Ram’s birthplace, is situated on the banks of the Sarayu river.
