Nitin Kohli, Harpreet to steer Hockey Punjab

After serving eight months suspension, Hockey Punjab is back in action.

After serving eight months suspension, Hockey Punjab is back in action. At a general house meeting held on Thursday, Nitin Kohli and Olympian Harpreet Singh were unanimously elected President and Honorary Secretary of  Hockey Punjab.

Hockey Punjab was suspended by Hockey India in January this year  on the allegations that it was not functioning in accordance with the guidelines. Doubts were raised over the manner in which the previous elections were held.

At that time, Hockey India had appointed an ad hoc committee to run the affairs of Hockey Punjab. Olympian Balwinder Singh Shammi, who has now been elected Vice-President, steered Hockey Punjab, during the suspension period.

The elections were conducted in the presence of the observers from Hockey India (Shivlochak Deep Singh), Punjab Olympic Association (Prabhjeev Singh) and Punjab Sports Department  (Gurpreet Singh). Olympian Pargat Singh conducted the proceedings. The meeting was attended by 20 of 23 district units affiliated to Hockey Punjab.

After the unanimous election, affiliation of Hockey Punjab to Hockey India has been restored.

The following were elected office-bearers : President – Nitin Kohli; Vice-Presidents – Balwinder Singh Shammi and Dr Navjit Kaur; Honorary Secretary – Harpreet Singh; Treasurer – Sanjeev Kumar; Joint Secretaries ‘ Baljit Singh and Renu Bala; Executive Committee –  Rajwant Singh, Kulbir Singh,  Gurmit Singh, Meenakshi and Parminder Kaur.
