No plans to bring back mask mandates: PM Justin Trudeau

by The Canadian Parvasi

In a year-end interview, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the Federal Government had no intentions of bringing back the masking mandates.

Some experts have been opining to bring back the mask mandates as Canada continues to be overburdened with the triple threat of respiratory diseases,- RSV, Flu, and Covid-19. The federal government had previously ended the mask mandate of air and train transportation among other federally-regulated industries back in October of this year.

“The federal mask mandate was on federally-regulated industries. That is, particularly, planes and trains and those sorts of things,” stated PM Trudeau, asserting that mask mandates would have only a little effect on the healthcare situation when compared with provincial initiatives.

“Most of the experiences in people’s lives, whether it’s in a grocery store or going to their workplaces, are regulated by the provinces…That’s not my decision to make. That is based on the best recommendations of our public health authorities and our health officials,” PM Trudeau continued.

Back in November, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam encouraged Canadians to mask up but did not state if the government had any intentions of introducing a mandate. “I think it’s an interesting and important consideration. It depends on what the reasons are for people maybe not wearing masks at this point,” She said.
