Nova Scotia: Many schools shut down as Environment Canada issues snowfall warning

A snowfall warning by Environment Canada for all of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton was issued starting Friday morning and possibly continuing into Saturday morning. Many schools in the region have been shut in lieu of the warning as the region prepares for what is referred to as its first major blast of winter.

Schools like the South Shore Regional Centre for Education, Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education, Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education, Halifax Regional Centre for Education, and the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education have been closed in anticipation of the snowstorm.  Schools in Strait and Cape Breton-Victoria Regional centres for education, however, reportedly remain open.

Alongside the schools, most Nova Scotia Community College campuses as well as several public libraries in the Annapolis Valley have also been called off for the day.

The Halifax Stanfield International Airport also took to twitter to caution flyers of the snow, stating, “Snow has arrived in Nova Scotia. Today’s weather may cause flight delays and cancellations. Confirm your flight status with your airline or by visiting http://halifaxstanfield.ca before coming to the airport. #NSStorm.”

Travel conditions could also detoriate due to the weather conditions, Environment Canada warned.
