Peel Regional Police Launch Project E.R.A.S.E. to Crack Down on Street Racing
In a continued effort to enhance road safety, Peel Regional Police is partnering with neighbouring police services to help eliminate street racing and other high-risk driving behaviours through Project ERASE (Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere).
This annual, multijurisdictional enforcement campaign focuses on high-visibility, strategic operations to address street racing, stunt driving and illegal car rallies across the Greater Toronto Area.
Since 2022, Peel Regional Police has recorded a 154 per cent increase in street racing-related charges, rising from just over 800 charges in 2022 to more than 2,100 in 2024. In the last two weeks, 32 vehicles have been seized and more than 400 charges have been laid, including 26 related to stunt driving. This data showcases the continued need for road safety efforts, and that street racing and stunt driving will not be tolerated.
Peel Regional Police also works closely with the cities of Mississauga and Brampton to ensure bylaws are enforced, including fines up to $800 for participants and spectators at illegal car rallies. In addition, offenders are subject charges, vehicle impoundment, and driver’s licence suspension.
To help keep roads safe, members of the public are urged to report dangerous driving behaviours by contacting Road Safety Services at 905-453-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by filing an online report via Road Watch. Photo and video evidence of dangerous driving incidents can also be submitted through the following evidence submission portal.
Peel Regional Police is proud to partner with Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, and Hamilton Police Service on Project ERASE.
“Programs like Project E.R.A.S.E. play a crucial role in promoting public safety and building a safer Brampton—one where accountability is the norm, not the exception. Thank you to Peel Regional Police for remaining committed to listening to our community and taking strong, consistent action to combat dangerous driving and illegal street racing in Brampton and across the region.”
– Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, and Peel Police Service Board Member
“Ensuring that Mississauga’s roads are being used by responsible and careful drivers is critical to everyone’s safety. Drivers need to take accountability for their actions while using the many streets which connect our great city. Today, we stand in solidarity with Peel Regional Police as they kick off their annual Project E.R.A.S.E. (Erase Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere) campaign to ensure drivers refrain from illegal street racing and take the privilege of operating a vehicle on our roads seriously and in a manner which addresses everyone’s rights to safely travel in our city.”
– Deputy Mayor Matt Mahoney, City of Mississauga, and Peel Police Service Board Member
“Since 2022, Peel Regional Police has seen a significant increase in street racing-related charges. This upward trend sends a clear message: dangerous driving will not be tolerated in our communities. These figures reflect our unwavering commitment to road safety and highlight the ongoing need for coordinated enforcement strategies. Through strong partnerships with neighbouring police services and our government partners, we are taking a unified approach to combat high-risk driving behaviours and protect the public.”
