Punjab: VK Janjua is new Chief Secretary
VK Janjua, who belongs to the 1989 batch of IAS and was Special Chief Secretary, Jails, has been given the new assignment as the administrative head of the State.
Punjab will have a new Chief Secretary. After appointing Gaurav Yadav as officiating Director-General of Police, the Punjab Government today ordered replacement of Anirudh Tewari with Vijay Janjua as Chief Secretary of the State.
Anirudh Tewari, who belongs to the 1990 batch of IAS, has been posted as Director-General of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration to relieve Jyoti Talwar of the additional charge.
VK Janjua, who belongs to the 1989 batch of IAS and was Special Chief Secretary, Jails, has been given the new assignment as the administrative head of the State. He will also be Principal Secretary Vigilance and Personnel.
Now the State has a new Chief Secretary as well as a new, though officiating, Director-General of Police.
Known for ordering frequent transfers, the AAP Government has also ordered transfer of 300-odd senior police personnel, including Assistant Superintendents and deputy Superintendents.
These administrative changes follow the first Cabinet expansion. Yesterday, five new Cabinet Ministers – Aman Arora, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Fauja Singh Sarari, Chetan Singh Jauramajra and Anmol Gagan Mann – were sworn in to take the strength of the Council of Ministers to 15.
The Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, has distributed portfolios not only to new Ministers but also made some minor changes in the portfolios of existing Ministers.
Chetan Singh Jauramajra has been named the new Health and Medical Education Minister. He basically comes in place of Dr Vijay Singla who was dismissed from the Cabinet on corruption charges.
Aman Arora, a senior member of the AAP Legislature Party, will be the new Information and Public Relations Minister.
Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, the lone representative from the Majha region to be inducted in the Cabinet in its first expansion, will be the new Local Bodies Minister. Dr Nijjar comes from Amritsar. Even in the previous Congress government, Navjot Singh Sidhu, held the portfolio of Local Bodies.
Fauja Singh Sarari will be the new Minister for Food Processing and Freedom Fighters while Anmol Gagan Mann has been given the portfolio of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
Now when the State Government has new Ministers, new DGP and new CS, more administrative changes are expected in the coming days as the new Ministers and administrative heads would have teams of their choice in carrying out duties assigned to them under their new roles.
