Southern Ontario including GTA under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm for parts of Southern Ontario on Wednesday.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm for parts of Southern Ontario on Wednesday.  A variety of warnings have been issued from Barrie to Windsor and the federal agency is said to be keeping a check and tracking the movement of the thunderstorm.

Residents of Barrie have been advised to be indoors as nickel to ping pong ball-sized hails could fall and Windsor can experience pea to dime-sized hail.

The Greater Toronto Area is also under a severe storm watch and a thunderstorm is expected at around 2 p.m.

The storms are expected to continue through the afternoon with winds up to 100kmph in some areas.

Matt Grinter, from The Weather Network, said, “As we head into fall, these storms take on a bit of a different form compared to summer storms. Winds from the low-pressure system will become stronger and more widespread due [to] the strength of the cold front, or how much the temperatures drop, as well as the wind shear in the storm.”

One of the weather warnings mentioned that extremely large hails might smash the windows and destroy property and vehicles, and cause life-threatening injuries. Lightening can be seen with the intense thunderstorm in some places.
