Vaughan Shooting: 73-year-old Francesco Villi Shot Board Members for their Ignorance

Francesco Villi has been identified as the man behind the Vaughan mass shooting that ended with six people dead. Villi reportedly targeted the housing board members because they failed to address his concerns regarding cleanliness in the building which affected his chronic health condition. He was one of the six people who died during the incident at a condominium building on Jane Street.

On Sunday evening, at around 7:20 p.m., a male gunman opened fire at members of the housing committee of a condominium building at 9325 Jane Street. He fatally shot five people before being shot by the police. The gunman was later identified as Francesco Villi, a 73-year-old resident of the building. According to reports, Villi was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and had asked the building management multiple times to address issues related to dust and cleanliness.

Before the shooting, Villi posted a video on Facebook of him calling out his condo board, saying they were “bastards and criminals.” He mentions in the video that he only wants comfort in his home and has been denied that for 70 years. Villi stated that they took him to court but his evidence of 300-400 pages was discarded. The video starts with Villi saying, “So I did not have to do this if you would’ve given me some comfort in my home.”

York Regional Police (YRP) responded to the incident and said that “there was an interaction between the officers and a male subject and the subject was shot. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.” The police also shared that five victims were killed and one was taken to the hospital. An investigation is underway. YRP chief Jim MacSween then shared condolences to the families of the victims and said the situation is no longer a threat to public safety.

The video and what seems to be a doctor’s note asking for Villi’s environment to be kept clean were shared by Twitter users. One of the users stated that the governing body of 9325 Jane Street (Jane/Rutherford Condos) has been described online as “corrupt” and incompetent.
