At least 18 have been killed and three injured in a shooting on Wednesday afternoon in The City Hall in San Miguel Totolapan, Guerrero. The Mayor of the city, Conrado Mendoza, was also killed in the scuffle, which is said to be linked to organised crime
The governor of Guerrero, the state where the incident happened, took to Twitter to tweet, “I condemn the facts and reiterate that in the @Gob_Guerrero there will be no impunity in the face of the cunning aggression against the municipal president and officials of the City Council. Our commitment is firm, we will not take a step back to provide security to the population of San Miguel Totolapan and to our entire region of Tierra Caliente.”
Alongside Mayor Mendoza, his father and former Mayor Juan Mendoza, and other dignitaries, hall workers, and police officers present in The City hall were also killed when gunmen aimed at the congregation as well as a house right next to it.
Pictures of the heinous attack have made rounds on social media, as have the videos of the ‘Los Tequileros’ gang, who have claimed responsibility for the incident. The shooting marks the gang’s return to ‘Tierra Caliente’.
