A shooting in north Brampton has left one person dead and prompted a heavy police response near Sandalwood Parkway and Crown Victoria Drive, Peel Regional Police said Thursday evening.
Police said officers were called to the area shortly after 7 p.m. on June 4 after reports of a shooting. In an update posted later, police confirmed the victim had been pronounced deceased.
Peel police first reported the incident at 7:39 p.m., saying one person had been shot and advising residents to avoid the area due to a heavy police presence. The call came in at 7:10 p.m., according to the police post.

Investigators said the suspect or suspects were no longer believed to be in the area. No suspect description, arrest information, or motive had been released as of the latest public update.
Police have not released the victim’s name, age, or gender. Authorities were expected to provide more information later Thursday night.
The shooting happened in the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Crown Victoria Drive, a residential and commercial corridor in Brampton’s north end. Police urged the public to stay away from the scene while officers continued their investigation.
