A 21-year-old Punjabi man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to the murder of his former girlfriend, whose body was found in March 2021 in South Australia.

The suspect, identified as Tarikjot Singh, was accused of abducting and murdering his former girlfriend, 21-year-old Jasmeen Kaur, before dumping her body in a shallow grave in Flinders Ranges, according to media reports.

Previously pleading not guilty to the murder, Singh, in an unanticipated turn of events, changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday. The issue is scheduled to be revisited by the court in April, media reports add.

After finishing her shift at Southern Cross Homes in North Plympton at around 10 p.m. on March 5, the now-deceased was “taken by force” by a man. The slain aged-care worker and nursing student was then found dead 430 km from Adelaide, according to the police. After her employer reached out to her relatives who she lived with to enquire about her absence, they reported Kaur missing to the authorities.

Speaking to media outlets, Kaur’s mother, Rashpal Gathwal, stated, “I regret the day I said yes to sending my daughter to Australia… I miss her everyday.”
