24-year-old Canada-based NRI youth killed in brawl over ‘inappropriate’ songs at Anandpur Sahib festival

A fight broke out at the Hola Mohalla festival in Anandpur Sahib, killing a 24-year-old Canadian NRI, according to media reports.
The deceased, identified as Pardeep Singh, was said to be a resident of Gurdaspur district’s village Gazikot, and was visiting Anandpur Sahib.
On Monday, Niranjan Singh, reportedly a resident of Nurpurbedi in Rupnagar, and Singh got into an argument over a certain issue, media reports further added.

During the altercation, Singh was seriously hurt and eventually passed away, according to media outlets.

The altercation that led to the demise of Singh started due to Singh objecting to inappropriate songs that were being played in public, according to his family.

According to the police, the accused Niranjan also sustained injuries and was receiving treatment at Chandigarh Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research.

Vivek Sheel Soni, a senior superintendent of police, claimed Singh, who is said to be a permanent resident in Canada, arrived in India in February.

The accused has reportedly been charged under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code .

Investigations into the incident are still underway, SSP Soni added further.
