A shooting incident has been reported at Chinguacousy Park in Brampton, just hours after Peel Regional Police had assured increased security presence at the park for the JAMBANA Festival, a widely attended event celebrating Emancipation Day and Black cultural heritage.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., Peel Regional Police confirmed via social media that officers are actively investigating reports of shots fired in the area. The tweet urged residents to avoid the park while the investigation is underway.

As of now, it is unclear if there are any injuries or suspects in custody. Police have not released additional information, but a visible police presence remains at the scene.
Ironically, this incident follows an earlier tweet from Peel Police posted just before the shooting, reminding the public that officers would be present to ensure the safety of attendees at the Festival.

Earlier in the evening, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown praised the event on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as a vibrant celebration of Black culture, music, and community spirit. The festival featured performances by Fab5, Exco Levi, High Priest, and Jahmila Sings, and drew hundreds of residents and families.
This is a developing story. More details to follow as they become available.
