Kartarpur Sahib Restoration Work to Be Accelerated Following Flood Impact

The Governing Council of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur has decided to speed up restoration work at the historic shrine following flood damage last year.

During its eighth meeting held Wednesday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, council members reviewed repair and rehabilitation measures required after severe flooding affected sections of the Kartarpur Corridor. Officials attributed the damage to flooding linked to Indian water aggression, which impacted parts of the corridor infrastructure.

Secretary for Religious Affairs Sajid Chauhan chaired the session and confirmed that “damaged portions of the flood hit corridor would be restored on an urgent basis.” The council also resolved to reconvene within two weeks to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of the rehabilitation work.

Addressing the meeting, Chauhan described the Kartarpur Corridor project as a symbol of humanitarian values and interfaith harmony. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing the best possible facilities for Sikh yatrees and devotees visiting the sacred site.

Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora attended in his role as Pardhan of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Arora stated that both federal and Punjab authorities were working in coordination to offer seamless services and warm hospitality to Sikh pilgrims.

Senior representatives from the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defence, Law and Justice, Information and Broadcasting, along with the Planning Commission, Frontier Works Organisation, and Punjab Home Department, also participated in the meeting.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, located in Pakistan’s Narowal district across the Ravi River, lies about four kilometres from Dera Baba Nanak in India. The shrine marks the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev, who spent the last 18 years of his life in Kartarpur.
