Mississauga Drops Paramount Fine Foods Centre Name Over $1.6M Owed to City

Mississauga is temporarily renaming one of its major sports and entertainment venues after ending its naming rights and concession agreement with Paramount Fine Foods over unpaid money owed to the City.

Effective June 1, 2026, the Paramount Fine Foods Centre at 5500 Rose Cherry Place will become the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre. The City says the name change follows its decision to terminate the agreement after Paramount Fine Foods failed to meet its contractual payment obligations over a prolonged period.

According to the City of Mississauga, Paramount Fine Foods owes $1.6 million. The City says it plans to pursue legal action in the coming weeks to recover the amount.

The City said it tried to work with Paramount Fine Foods to resolve the payment issue but was unable to reach an agreement or receive payment.

“The City’s primary goal is protecting taxpayer dollars,” the release said, adding every vendor, contractor and partner working with the City must meet its contractual obligations.

The facility has carried the Paramount Fine Foods Centre name for nearly eight years. During the interim period, while Mississauga looks for a new naming partner, the venue will operate under the temporary Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre name.

The City says there will be no impact on scheduled programs, rentals, bookings or events at the facility. Tickets showing the Paramount Fine Foods Centre name will still be honoured.

“Residents, tenants, and event organizers should expect business as usual at the facility. Programs, rentals, bookings, and events will continue, and our focus is on maintaining a smooth transition as the City’s moves to the temporary name and assumes food service operations,” said Raj Sheth, Commissioner, Community Services.

The City said it is working directly with tenants, sports organizations, partners and event organizers to ensure the transition does not disrupt operations.

The new temporary name will apply to the full complex, including the main Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre at 5500 Rose Cherry Place, the community rinks, the SportsPlex at 5600 Rose Cherry Place, and the sports fields and dome at 5475 Rose Cherry Place.

Visitors will see updated signage, on-site information and customer service support during the transition. The City says updates will also appear on mississauga.ca, social media, Google Search and Maps, and other public listings.

Starting June 1, the City will also take over food service and concession operations at the facility. Mississauga says its focus is to maintain a consistent customer experience.

The temporary name will remain in place while the City conducts market analysis to assess the value of future naming rights and searches for a new naming partner. A new website, mississaugasec.com, is also being developed.
