9 Brampton Residents Charged After Police Seize $139M in Drugs
Nine Brampton residents face dozens of charges following one of Ontario’s largest drug busts by weight, a joint police operation that seized more than $139 million in suspected illegal drugs and 17 firearms, including an anti-tank rifle.
The intelligence-led investigation, dubbed Project Bay, resulted in the seizure of approximately 973 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 660 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and 49 kilograms of suspected opium, according to a joint police and Canada Border Services Agency release.
Police also recovered oxycodone tablets, ammunition, prohibited weapons, C$80,000, US$10,000, high-end jewellery, money counters, 43 cellphones and six laptops.
The Brampton residents charged are:
Gagandip Thindal, 27, faces 10 charges, including conspiracy to import cocaine, conspiracy to possess cocaine for trafficking, firearm offences and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Toronto court on July 27.
Simranjit Singh, 32, faces 12 charges, including conspiracy, importing and trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking and firearm offences. He was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on July 22.
Jatinderpal Singh, 39, Jasvinder Sohi, 55, and Tejwinder Sandhu, 29, each face two charges: conspiracy to import cocaine and conspiracy to possess cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Singh and Sohi were released on undertakings, while Sandhu was released following a bail hearing.
Tarminder Singh, 19, faces nine charges, including importing and trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, heroin and opium, possession of proceeds of crime and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded in custody.
Gundeep Tariwal, 32, faces four charges involving the alleged importation of cocaine and methamphetamine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was released following a bail hearing.
Mehakpreet Singh, 24, faces eight charges involving firearms, conspiracy and the alleged trafficking or possession of cocaine and methamphetamine. Karandeep Singh, 27, faces six firearm, conspiracy and drug-possession charges. Both were held for bail hearings.
Windsor police launched Project Bay in January 2025. Investigators allege the network used connections in the commercial transportation industry to arrange for drivers to knowingly carry drugs across the international border within legitimate supply chains.
Eighteen search warrants were executed June 25 in Windsor, Corunna, LaSalle, Brampton and Kleinburg. Four more followed in Markham, Caledon and Brampton in July.
Police said 21 people face 102 charges, with 19 arrested and two still wanted. A related CBSA release lists 104 offences. None of the allegations has been proven in court.
