GTA school buses, flights from Toronto Pearson Airport cancelled amid winter storm

by The Canadian Parvasi

After the winter storm that started Wednesday and continued overnight, school buses in the Greater Toronto Area have been called off for Thursday.

The Toronto public and Catholic boards, The Peel public and Catholic boards, The York public and Catholic boards, The Halton public and Catholic boards, and The Durham public and Catholic board have all called off bus services for Thursday. The schools under the boards, however, remain open.

Due to the winter storm that hit parts of Ontario, areas west of Toronto saw up to 25 centimetres of snowfall, while eastern areas towards Prince Edward County and Kingston could also find snowfall of a similar amount, according to Environment Canada.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to roughly 300 crashes in the past 24 hours, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt stated Thursday morning.

The Toronto Pearson Airport, on Wednesday, also announced that it had to cancel more than a quarter of its flights due to the weather conditions looming over the GTA, among other parts of Ontario. 26.95% of the departing flights as well as 28% of the arriving flights were cancelled by the airport on Wednesday.

“Delays are possible as our ground crews work hard in these challenging conditions to ensure the safety of all passengers,” tweeted the airport, cautioning flyers to check the status of their flights before arriving.
