A deadly house fire in Brampton has claimed four lives, including a toddler, after investigators spent several days examining the wreckage on Banas Way near McLaughlin Road and Remembrance Road. Peel police delivered the update on Monday, confirming the scale of the tragedy and outlining the steps taken since the fire broke out early Thursday.
The blaze tore through the multi generational home, leaving several people unaccounted for as search teams worked through debris. Officers later confirmed the deaths of three women and the toddler. Two of the victims were found the day the fire occurred, one inside the house and another outside the structure. A third adult was located on Friday during a continued search of the scene.
Three people were previously missing, including the toddler and a woman who were later confirmed dead. The third missing individual, Jugraj Singh, was found safe. Constable Tyler Bell said Singh had been working during the fire and was later located in hospital with family members.
Bell expressed deep concern for those affected and said investigators are focused on gathering answers that support prevention efforts. He said the force remains committed to a thorough review of all available evidence.
Singh’s wife was among four people who suffered critical injuries. She was pregnant and underwent emergency surgery that resulted in the delivery of her baby. Police said the infant did not survive. A five year old boy from the same family remains in stable condition, and police noted that he is recovering well while receiving care at SickKids hospital.
Singh’s wife, the young boy, and two other relatives jumped from a second floor window to escape the flames. Police said all four survivors remain in critical but stable condition as medical teams continue their treatment.
Bell said the boy’s recovery offers some comfort in a week marked by loss. He added that the family is receiving strong support during a difficult period.
Police also confirmed that several people lived in the home, including two basement tenants who were unharmed. Investigators stressed that no signs of criminal activity have been found so far. The cause of the fire remains under review, and police expect to release updates as more information becomes available.
The incident has left the surrounding neighbourhood shaken, with many residents expressing sympathy for the family and shock at the scale of the devastation.
