Canada-Deported Woman Charged With Husband’s Murder in Punjab, Lover on Run

A woman deported from Canada earlier this year now faces murder charges in Punjab after police linked her to her husband’s death in Sukhnewala village, Faridkot district. Officers said Rupinder Kaur played a central role in a plot driven by a relationship with another man, identified as Harkawalpreet Singh, who remains on the run.

Police said Rupinder Kaur married Gurwinder Singh in 2023. She moved to Canada after the wedding and returned to India in 2024 following her deportation. Officers added that she formed a relationship with Harkawalpreet Singh during her stay abroad. Investigators reported that he also returned to India after facing deportation.

Family members told police Gurwinder Singh feared for his safety. His sister, Manveer Kaur, filed a formal complaint and said her brother informed relatives about the relationship between Rupinder Kaur and Harkawalpreet Singh. She said he raised concerns repeatedly and worried about threats to his life.

Events took a sharp turn late Friday. Police said Rupinder Kaur raised an alarm inside the house during the night. Villagers rushed to the home and reached the rooftop, where they found Gurwinder Singh unresponsive. Officers said the cause of death remains unclear. Early observations left investigators unsure whether poisoning or strangulation played a role.

DSP Tarlochan Singh confirmed that officers at Sadar Faridkot police station registered a case against both accused. Police arrested Rupinder Kaur shortly after the incident and launched a search for her alleged partner. A police team visited multiple locations linked to him, including his residence in Balluana village, Bathinda district.

Gurwinder Singh’s body went to Faridkot Medical College Hospital for a postmortem. Officers said the report will guide the next stage of the investigation. Police teams continue to gather digital records, phone data, and witness statements from family members and villagers who arrived at the scene in response to the alarm raised by Rupinder Kaur.

A case under Section 103 for murder and Section 61(2) BNS for criminal conspiracy is now registered against Rupinder Kaur and Harkawalpreet Singh. Officers said the investigation remains active and teams aim to locate the second accused soon.
