Surrey Jaguars moved to the top of the table with a rousing eight-wicket win over winless Mississauga Panthers in GT20 Canada at TD Arena in Brampton on Wednesday. With this win, Surrey Jaguars have taken their points tally to 10, a point beyond previous leaders Montreal Tigers.

The win for Surrey Jaguars, their fourth in last as many matches, came in the tournament’s lowest-scoring game.
Mississauga Panthers suffered their sixth defeat. Their only consolation had been a single point they got from their abandoned game against Brampton Wolves. Skipper Shoaib Malik again failed with the bat as he sent for five. West Indian star Chris Gayle did not play today.

Put to bat first Mississauga Panthers sent packing for a paltry total of 56 in 14.3 overs, the lowest by any team this year. Only two batsmen – Shreyas Movaa 17 and Nikhil 10 reached double figures. Sandeep Lamichhane was the most successful Surrey Jaguars bowler as he ended with three for six followed by skipper Iftikhar Ahmad with two for 13 and Mathew Forde two for 8.

Needing 57 for a win, Surrey Jaguars knocked off the required runs with more than 10 overs to spare as Mohammad Haris did the bulk of the scoring with an unbeaten knock of 37 from 23 balls with six boundaries and a six. Lutron Das made 10 before Iftikhar joined Mohammad Haris to attain the target with eight wickets to spare.
Now Surrey Jaguars will play the number two team in the group for a place in Sunday’s final.
