After being arrested by Bathinda Vigilance Bureau Thursday morning in relation to a bribery case, Bathinda Rural MLA Amit Rattan was reportedly presented in front of a court amid heavy security, wherein he was sent into 4-day police remand till February 27, according to media reports.

Resham Garg, Amit Rattan’s aide who had previously been arrested and was in police custody since February 16, was also presented before the court, media reports add.

Meanwhile, hours after the arrest, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter to assert his government’s non-tolerance towards corruption without naming any names.

“Bribery by anyone .. in any way … will not be tolerated … the faith, love and hopes of the people of Punjab keep me up.. there is no mercy or pity for those who eat people’s tax money Law is equal for all,” CM Maan tweeted in Punjabi on Thursday.

CM Mann’s statements come as reports circulate stating that the Punjab CM had reportedly given his nod to the arrest of the Bathinda Rural MLA on Wednesday night prior to his arrest Thursday.

According to media reports, the arrest was sanctioned after a forensic examination of a voice recording submitted by the complainant in the bribery case that supposedly proved that the voice in the recording was of the controversial MLA.

After then-health minister Vijay Singla, Rattan becomes the second AAP MLA to be arrested on corruption-related charges.
