Ontarians Experience Emergency Alert Test on Their Phones. On May 10, residents of Ontario were startled by the sound of emergency alerts emanating from their phones. The test alerts were conducted at 12:55 p.m. and served as a trial run for the emergency alert system. The system aims to ensure its readiness in the event of an actual emergency.

The test alerts were not limited to phones; they were also broadcasted on radio and television. The comprehensive approach aimed to assess the functionality of the system across various platforms. Authorized government agencies are the only entities allowed to issue alerts through the Alert Ready system, which operates in all provinces and territories except Alberta and Quebec.
