Up to 5,000 Toronto Residents Without Power for Nearly 15 Hours, Repairs Underway

Toronto residents in the Midtown neighborhood are without power on Tuesday morning. Around 5,000 residents have been affected as crews work on fixing the problem which is said to be “underground equipment requiring repair” as per Toronto Hydro. The area lost power at around 9 p.m. last night.

Up to 5,000 residents of the Midtown neighborhood in Toronto have been without power since 9 p.m. Monday night and as of now, it is unclear when the power will be restored. Toronto Hydro has been sharing updates and at 9:20 p.m. last night, it shared that crews were on-site trying to identify the problem. At around 11:30 p.m., they were able to identify the problem and said, “Crews have identified underground equipment requiring urgent repairs. They’re working as quickly & safely as possible, however, customers should be prepared to be without power through the night.”

As of 10:24 a.m. today, crews are working “as quickly & safely as possible” to restore power as the repairs are quite complex. Toronto Hydro stated that it is difficult to give an exact estimated time for the repairs and thanked the residents for their patience.

It also asked customers to keep a safe distance away from the crew to provide them with the space they need to work safely.
