After 51-year-old Barinder Singh was killed by intruders who broke into his residence in Mill Woods on New Year’s Day, the wife of the deceased is asking for justice.

Singh, alongside his wife and two children, had moved to Edmonton from Hoshiarpur, Punjab in 2019.

Barinder was reportedly found by the police laying in a pool of his own blood while responding to a disturbance at around 2:45 am at a complex in the Pollard Meadows neighbourhood.

“All of the sudden there was just a noise. Somebody broke into the house. They just broke the door. We were scared and shattered…They randomly started shooting. Like gunshots were there. I heard few, but I don’t know how many,” recalled Jasjeet Kaur, Barinder Singh’s wife, while speaking to media outlets.

“He was lying on the floor in a pool of blood. I tried to shake him, just asking him to wake up,” she continued.

Alongside Barinder, the youngest daughter of the family was also shot, according to Kaur.

“I was like, what to do? Shall I take care of him or shall I take care of her,” Kaur tearfully stated.

Barinder was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he reportedly succumbed to his injuries. The autopsy revealed that he had died of gunshot wounds.

“We need justice. I just want to know who did this. I need to know. Why my family was the target? And it was not just him — it was the whole family…I want the culprits. I want to know the reason why it happened,” the deceased’s wife tearfully stated to media outlets.
