Organized Crime-Tourism Group Targeted GTA Homes for Cash, Jewelry and Firearms: Police

Four Chilean nationals are facing a combined 47 charges after York Regional Police linked them to at least 20 residential break-ins across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area, investigators said Tuesday.

Police said the arrests stem from Project Towns, an investigation launched in April 2026 by the York Regional Police Integrated Property Crime Task Force to address a series of home break-and-enters. Investigators allege the suspects were part of an “organized crime-tourism group” targeting residences for cash, high-end clothing, jewelry and firearms.

Police said suspects entered homes through rear basement glass doors. The break-ins were reported across York Region and other parts of the GTA.

The investigation moved forward on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at about 10 p.m., when officers responded to a residential break-and-enter in the area of Clark Avenue and Dufferin Street in Vaughan. Investigators from the Integrated Property Crime Task Force and the #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau found the suspect vehicle and arrested three suspects.

Search Warrants Executed In Toronto And Mississauga

That same day, police executed search warrants at residences in Toronto and Mississauga. A fourth suspect was arrested, and officers recovered stolen property. Police also seized break-in tools and a radio-frequency jammer.

Investigators identified the accused as Jose Ricardo Vargas Sepulveda, 24, Rodrigo Ariel Correa Paredes, 24, Danil Alexis Carrasco Cruces, 44, and Rose Marie Monroy Sepulveda, 27, all of Chile.

Police said two of the suspects were already on judicial release orders for unrelated incidents at the time of their arrests.

Investigation Ongoing, More Charges Expected

York Regional Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges are anticipated.
