Justice Vickramjeet Aujla Appointed to Ontario Court of Justice, Assigned to Orangeville

Justice Vickramjeet Aujla, a former Peel Crown attorney with strong legal and community ties in Brampton and Dufferin County, has been appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice.

Ontario Attorney General Doug Downey announced the appointment of five new judges to the provincial court, effective May 27, 2026. Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas has assigned Justice Aujla to Orangeville.

Aujla’s appointment is drawing attention in Peel Region’s South Asian community, where his legal career and public service have strong local connections. His appointment also adds to the growing visibility of South Asian professionals in Ontario’s justice system.

Justice Aujla was called to the Ontario bar in 2011 after graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.

He began his legal career as an assistant Crown attorney with the Peel Crown Attorney’s Office in Brampton, where he prosecuted serious and complex criminal cases. His work in Peel placed him in one of Ontario’s busiest and most diverse court regions.

In 2024, he joined the Orangeville Crown Attorney’s Office and became the Crown attorney for Dufferin County. In that role, he oversaw all criminal prosecutions in the county. He has appeared before both the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice.

Beyond his legal work, Justice Aujla has been active in community service across Brampton and the surrounding region.

He is a member of the Brampton Flower City Rotary Club and serves on the board of Brampton Caledon Community Living, a non-profit organization that provides residential services, life skills training and family support for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Justice Aujla also served as a citizen member of the Brampton Community Safety Advisory Committee, which advises city council on matters related to community safety.
