A man has died after a daylight shooting in a Brampton subdivision Sunday afternoon, prompting a homicide investigation and a continued police presence in the area.
Peel Regional Police said officers were called to Earlsbridge Boulevard and Edenbrook Hill Drive at 3:38 p.m. after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, Insp. Andrew Harris said during a Sunday evening media update.
Peel paramedics said the victim was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. Harris later confirmed the man had died.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
The Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau has taken over the investigation.
Two Suspects Fled On Foot
Police are searching for two male suspects who were last seen wearing dark hooded clothing. Harris said both fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
“After a significant search of the area, we’re satisfied that there’s no threat to the public,” Harris said.
Police have not released further suspect descriptions.
Investigators Probe Possible Altercation
Harris said investigators are still working to determine whether the victim and suspects knew each other or whether those involved lived in the neighbourhood.
“There appeared to be at least an altercation between the parties before the rounds were fired,” Harris said.
The shooting happened outside on the street in what Harris described as a busy residential subdivision.
“We’re in a fairly busy subdivision on what’s a busier side street in the City of Brampton. So, I would say that there was people out in the street,” Harris said.
Police Appeal For Witnesses
Harris urged anyone who witnessed the shooting and has not yet spoken with police to come forward.
Asked whether officers had recovered a firearm, Harris said he was not in a position to confirm.
“We’re still investigating, and there’s still lots to be located,” he said.
Residents should expect officers in the area as homicide investigators collect evidence and canvass the neighbourhood.
“This investigation is going to be thorough, and our Homicide and Missing Persons Unit is going to be actively in the area to ensure we collect all the evidence from the scene, and we can prosecute this as best we can,” Harris said.
“We’re going to be in the area for a lengthy period of time.”
