Brampton Bus Crash Sends 10 to Hospital, Police Launch Detailed Probe

Ten people were taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon following a major collision involving a Brampton Transit Züm bus and several other vehicles in the city’s east end.

Peel Regional Police said the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Queen Street East and Hanson Road South. The collision involved a Brampton Züm bus and approximately seven additional vehicles, according to police.

Emergency crews responded quickly, with Peel Paramedics initially classifying the situation as a mass casualty incident. Communications superintendent Stefanie Kranjec said 14 paramedic units were dispatched in the early stages to manage patient care and scene coordination.

“All 10 patients were transported to local hospital with minor injuries,” paramedics confirmed in an update issued around 5:30 p.m. Earlier reports indicated one person had sustained serious injuries, though that assessment was later revised.

Kranjec said paramedics focused on rapid triage and transport. Crews were “trying to get the most injured out and where they need to be in a timely fashion,” she said. The scene was cleared by paramedics later in the afternoon.

Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said officers expected traffic disruptions to continue for several hours as investigators reviewed the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

While serious injuries were not confirmed, Bell-Morena said the involvement of a city bus requires a thorough investigation to map out how the collision occurred. Police were assessing whether the Major Collision Bureau would be required to reconstruct the crash scene.
