Peel Regional Police have confirmed that the body of a 20-year-old woman killed in a Brampton crash was not found until hours after the accident, when her family reported her missing. The vehicle involved had already been moved to an impound yard before officers discovered her remains.
The collision occurred around 4:20 a.m. on November 1 near Chinguacousy Road and Queen Street. Emergency crews responding to the scene found a severely damaged Honda Civic and another vehicle. A 31-year-old man from Brampton, who was driving the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told CP24 that first responders “located a deceased driver inside a Honda Civic” and that Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) had extricated the victim before both vehicles were towed for further examination. At the time, police said there was “no immediate or clear indication of a passenger” inside the vehicle.
Several hours later, the woman’s family reported her missing. Investigators confirmed her last known location through a shared tracking app, which placed her at the crash site. This prompted officers to re-examine the scene and the impounded vehicle.
“Officers closely examined the rear passenger compartment of the demolished Honda Civic and located the remains of the deceased woman embedded in the wreckage,” Bell-Morena said. “BFES was called again to assist with her extrication using specialized equipment.”
Police have since launched an internal review of the response and investigation process. “We recognize the profound impact of this tragedy and ask that the privacy of the families involved be respected,” Bell-Morena added. “Our thoughts remain with the families and all those affected by this tragic collision.”
The driver of the second vehicle, a youth whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
Peel Police are continuing the investigation and urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
