A Brampton man is facing several charges after Durham police say a theft at a Pickering Shoppers Drug Mart turned into a weapons-related robbery call when mall security was threatened with a knife.
Durham Regional Police said officers from West Division were called on Friday, April 24, 2026, at about 12:25 p.m. to the Shoppers Drug Mart inside The Shops at Pickering City Centre, located at 1355 Kingston Road.
Police allege a man entered the store and concealed several items in a bag. When staff confronted him, the suspect fled the store.
Security Threatened With Knife, Police Say
According to police, mall security attempted to follow the man after he left the store. During that interaction, police allege the suspect threatened security personnel with a large knife.
Officers located the man a short time later and arrested him without incident.
Jarmanjit Singh, 28, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and breach of probation.
Police Appeal For Footage And Information
Singh was held for a bail hearing.
