Feels Like Minus 23 as Bitter Cold Grips GTA and Toronto Today

Cold temperatures tightened their grip on Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area today as Arctic air settled over southern Ontario.

Morning temperatures sat near minus 12 degrees Celsius across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, and Markham. Strong winds pushed the feels like value to minus 23, making outdoor conditions harsh during the morning commute. Afternoon highs stayed well below zero, offering little relief.

Environment Canada forecasts show cold air dominating the GTA through the day. Gusty winds added bite across open areas, transit platforms, and major roadways. Outdoor workers and commuters faced the toughest conditions during early hours.

City officials urged residents to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors. Seniors, unhoused residents, and those with health concerns face higher risk during extreme cold. Toronto warming centres remained open as a precaution.

Drivers encountered icy patches on local roads and highways, especially in shaded sections. Officials advised reduced speeds and extra caution during travel.

Meteorologists expect cold temperatures to linger through the week, with overnight lows dropping further. Additional snow systems moving through southern Ontario may reinforce winter conditions across the GTA.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for continued cold weather across Toronto and surrounding communities.
