Hurontario Street Named Worst Road In GTA, Second-Worst In Ontario

Mississauga’s Hurontario Street has been named the second-worst road in Ontario in the Canadian Automobile Association’s 2026 Worst Roads campaign, placing one of the GTA’s busiest corridors near the top of the provincewide list.

The annual campaign asks road users across Ontario to vote for the roads they believe need urgent attention. This year, Hamilton’s Barton Street East took the top spot, while Hurontario Street ranked second. Notre Dame Avenue in Greater Sudbury placed third.

CAA Worst Roads 2026: Hurontario Street Leads GTA Concerns

The ranking highlights ongoing frustration among drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users in Mississauga and across the GTA. CAA said voters commonly pointed to potholes, poor maintenance and uneven road surfaces as key issues affecting safety and mobility.

The fourth spot on the Ontario list went to Sider Road in Fort Erie. Toronto also featured heavily in the top 10, with Steeles Avenue East ranked fifth and Sheppard Avenue West ranked sixth. Bathurst Street placed eighth, while Unwin Avenue took ninth.

In a news release, CAA noted that four of Ontario’s worst roads are in Toronto, underscoring “ongoing challenges in some of the province’s busiest corridors.”

Toronto Roads Also Dominate Ontario’s Worst Roads List

Brian Pirvu, government relations consultant for CAA South Central Ontario, said the campaign gives municipalities a clearer picture of where residents want road investments directed.

“Reliable infrastructure isn’t just about convenience; it’s about safety, affordability and quality of life,” he said.

“Investing in roads helps reduce repair costs for drivers and ensures people can get where they need to go safely.”

Worst Roads By Region Across Ontario

CAA also released its 2026 regional rankings. Steeles Avenue East topped the Toronto Region list, while Hurontario Street in Mississauga ranked worst for Halton, Peel, York and Durham Region.

Other regional roads named include Barton Street East in Hamilton, Carling Avenue in Ottawa, 6th Line in Innisfil, Leveque Road in South Frontenac, Ira Needles Boulevard in Waterloo, Blackwell Sideroad in Sarnia, Sider Road in Fort Erie and Notre Dame Avenue in Greater Sudbury.

The results are expected to add pressure on local and provincial decision-makers as communities continue calling for safer, smoother and better-maintained roads.
